Who am I?

Hi all, I’m Chris Cowdrey. I’m a skier, climber, summer mountain leader and writer based in Somerset, England. Yep that’s right, Somerset. The mildest county of the UK with a maximum altitude of 510m! Not so great for skiing or winter climbing.

Even with my geological location being a downfall, I am aspiring to gain MIA and MIC with the long term future aspiration of becoming an IFMGA British Mountain Guide. With hard work and dedication, I can make it happen.

I started this blog in 2012 to document my adventures and share them with family and friends. I hope that through this blog, I can inspire you and give advice. As well as entertain.

I have group leading experience in the mountains and specialise in teaching mountain skills which includes navigation, wild camping and mountain safety. I have a lot of experience and lots more knowledge! This is my passion, to infuse others with the skills and knowledge that I possess and to introduce others to the mountain environment.

For more information on the services I offer, visit my website (At The Edge Mountaineering):

I’m ambitious. There is no denying that. Whether it’s to ski a Chamonix extreme test piece or to summit Denali via the Cassin ridge, I will meticulously plan and research every detail and solve problems which I may encounter. After all, no plan survives first contact. I am entering the world of freelance writing and aim to pursue my passion in skiing and climbing and combine it with writing. Whether through magazine articles, gear reviews or online content. My articles on this blog hopefully prove my commitment and ambition as well as show my planning and research skills.

So if you love skiing and climbing, stick around. Hopefully you will learn something new and get inspired.

See you in the mountains!
